Project Overview
A transportation equipment manufacturer required a foam sealing profile for access panels installed on the exterior of a vehicle.
The panels were opened regularly for inspection and maintenance. The sealing material therefore needed to withstand repeated compression without becoming permanently flattened too quickly.
Project Challenge
The installation gap varied slightly around the panel frame. A material that was too firm increased closing force, while an excessively soft foam could not maintain sufficient sealing contact.
The application also required resistance to:
- Sunlight and ozone
- Rain and moisture
- Road dust
- Vibration
- Repeated opening and closing
OKIN Solution
OKIN recommended a closed-cell EPDM foam profile with suitable thickness and compression characteristics.
Samples with different densities were prepared so the customer could compare closing force and sealing contact under actual installation conditions.
After testing, the selected profile was supplied with adhesive backing to support accurate positioning during assembly.
Project Result
The final EPDM foam weather seal provided a better balance between sealing pressure and panel closing force.
The customer was able to install the profile more efficiently while maintaining consistent sealing around the access panel.
