Flexible Foam for Vehicle Components
Automotive components are exposed to vibration, repeated movement, temperature changes, dust and outdoor weather conditions. Foam materials may be required to seal gaps, cushion contact areas or reduce noise generated by component movement.
EPDM foam rubber is suitable for many exterior and interior vehicle applications because it combines flexibility with weather and ozone resistance.
Typical Automotive Uses
EPDM foam can be used for:
- Door and access-panel seals
- Trunk and hatch sealing
- Lighting component gaskets
- Interior trim cushioning
- Battery enclosure sealing
- Equipment cover gaskets
- Anti-rattle foam pads
- Vibration isolation strips
NVH and Cushioning Support
NVH refers to noise, vibration and harshness. EPDM foam can help reduce noise caused by direct contact between plastic, metal or composite components.
The foam structure provides cushioning and can absorb part of the movement between connected surfaces. However, performance depends on the foam density, thickness, installation pressure and component design.
Custom Product Development
OKIN can manufacture EPDM foam as extruded profiles, adhesive-backed strips and die-cut components. Custom dimensions can be developed according to vehicle drawings or physical samples.
For applications involving repeated opening and closing, compression recovery should be evaluated before final material approval.
