Project Overview
An electrical equipment manufacturer required a flexible sealing strip for outdoor control cabinets. The enclosure doors were repeatedly opened for maintenance, so the sealing material needed to compress easily and recover after use.
The application was exposed to rain, sunlight, ozone and changing outdoor temperatures. A standard indoor foam material could not provide suitable long-term performance.
Project Challenge
The sealing strip needed to fit a narrow installation channel while maintaining consistent contact around the enclosure door.
The customer also required:
- Good weather and ozone resistance
- Low water absorption
- Flexible compression
- Stable dimensions
- Optional adhesive backing for installation
OKIN Solution
OKIN recommended a closed-cell EPDM foam rubber strip with a controlled density and compression level. The strip dimensions were customized according to the enclosure groove and sealing gap.
A pressure-sensitive adhesive backing was added to simplify assembly and improve positioning during installation.
Prototype samples were produced for compression and fit testing before mass production.
Project Result
The customized EPDM foam strip provided uniform contact around the enclosure frame and improved protection against dust and moisture.
The final product was supplied in continuous rolls, allowing the customer to cut the sealing strip according to different cabinet sizes.
